Yesterday, Skylar had a big surprise for Daddy when he got up!

He walked into her room and saw this:

Then he noticed that she had 3 extra pillows behind her back, she had a book in her lap, and was curiously missing a shirt.

Then, Skylar told daddy that she "poop my pants" and pointed to the bookshelf where he saw this:

I'm sure you can figure out what that is... Skylar was also kind enough to point out how she attempted to put her "poop" in the diaper champ. (She even turned the handle so it was on BOTH sides! So sweet and helpful.)

Oh yea, don't forget the nightstand daddy.

Evidently, Skylar had woken up with a stinky diaper and stripped herself nekked; attempted to put her stinky diaper away like she does for us when we change her. Unfortunately she had some issues getting her diaper in there so she decided to take her poopy out of the diaper to put on the shelf (her diaper was also mostly folded and on the shelf below the poopy). Then evidently she picked out a book to read, climbed back in bed and was reading to herself when daddy walked in. In so many ways, I am so proud of my baby!

Skylar has learned how to get out of her crib now. She does it very quietly, sneakily and luckily has not hurt herself yet. So, we decided that although it was earlier than we had hoped for, we would go on and turn her crib into a daybed. We have a daybed that will be hers when we move and the baby will inherit her crib; but that daybed is currently in storage. :(

Skyguy (what she calls herself; also catchy to mom) really would prefer to sleep in a big bed instead of her crib/daybed and for two naps and one nighttime, we let her fall asleep in our bed and then transfered her to her bed. Obviously this is not ideal for anyone. Last night we checked on her and she was on the floor beside the bed cuddled up with a toy car (not sure if that was by accident or not).

So, after doing my best mommy-researching, I read how many people advised making the change to big girl bed a special event with your child. Since we can't change her bed now, we decided to take her to the store to pick out some big-girl bedding. So we went to Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond. At Target, Skyguy picked out two bedspreads that she liked and promptly said no to every other one. She then went back and said that she did not like the first two either. So we headed over to B, B & B. Skyguy basically said no to all of the bedding sets there as well; however she really liked the mink fabric they had on one of their beds and laid on it saying, "ahhhh, soft". We then tried to pick out the color: blue, green, or hot pink. We gave her a final choice between blue or green and she chose blue. (yay!) After picking out sheets, we headed back home to put her "new" bed together!

After bath, we got ready and put her new sheets on the bed and she jumped right up in bed! We went through the entire bed-time routine of reading books, singing songs, praying, etc. and then daddy and I walked right out the room and she stayed in bed!!! Hallelujah! I am currently waiting in the rec room for her to walk out the door and come get me, but so far so good! Yay for shopping and new sheets!

13 weeks and counting!

That's right, I'm 13 weeks pregnant!!

My due date is February 4th! These past few months have been both good and bad. Ken and I were SUPER excited to find out that we were expecting, however things have not been easy since then. I was told shortly after we found out that I might not have a job next year due to the current budget (I have since been rehired!) and Ken has decided to go the business route and try to find a "9-5" job. Of course, this is not the best time to find a job, especially in Greensboro, NC and he has had a few interviews, but no offers. He is now currently studying for the GMAT's so as to get his MBA. He has an interview with an admissions counselor (?) with Elon's business school coming up! Hopefully things will begin to fall into place!

As far as me, I had a great first 8 weeks, with only tiredness to deal with. For the last month however, I have had terrible headaches, some migraines and lots of nausea to go with the headaches. Coupled with the extreme tiredness and it has not been pretty. Luckily, I have been out of school for the summer and have been lazy most days. I am tutoring a kid 3x/week, but the rest of the time is mine. I have gained a total of 1lb. since my pre-preggo weight; losing a total of 4 and gaining 5. I was really good the first 9 weeks about going to the gym, but have slacked off the last 4 weeks. Now that I am feeling better, I definitely need to get back in the gym! I don't really care about how much weight I gain; I am much more concerned with exercising and dieting to control and hopefully prevent any onset of diabetes, as well as being more in shape for the actual birth.

Ken and I have decided at this time to not find out what the sex of the baby is, but, I really want to wait and be surprised! Since I had gestational diabetes with the last pregnancy, I will be tested for it this time too. I'm not sure what the stats are, but I know the risk is pretty high for me with subsequent pregnancies after the first.

I definitely want to have a natural childbirth this time around and would love to go to a birthing center. However, the nearest one is in Chapel Hill, too far of a drive for me. I am not sure if a home birth is an option for me (although I would love to do it) due to complications associated with diabetes. I will continue to look into it and talk with my doctor's about it, especially after another month when I will first test my sugars for diabetes.

On another note, I have already started searching for things that we need. I gave away or had borrowed a lot of things with Skylar, so we actually will need quite a few things. First, I found a carseat off of CL for $40 that is in excellent condition! It came with two bases and is a newer model so I can adjust the height from the front of the carseat; great for the little newborn stage so their head wont flop so much!

I also picked up a travel swaddle blanket on sale at Target for $5. It will be great during the winter months!

My next purchase is a my favorite!! I got a Pottery Barn Bassinet off of CL; I LOVE CL!! As you can see, it is white wicker with a moses basket that can be transported from room to room. Last time, we had a bassinet that we borrowed from my cousin that we rolled from room to room. It was great too, except that with our dogs, it was too wide to fit through the doggy gates and we had to pick it up to go over the gates; actually kind of hard for me.

As you can see, it is big enough for Sky to fit in it- we have to put everything in storage now so she wont play with it! Under the long skirt, there is a stand with a basket underneath for storage. I love, love, love it!!

Ok, that is all of my news for now! We will try to keep everything updated over the next few months though!

Grandparents have been schooling Sky in the craft of "boating" this summer; taking her out a handful of times with them. Here are some pics of their first trip; note: she has gotten much more independent over the next few trips.

Austin's B-Day- Happy 6th Austin!

Today we went over to my cousin's house to celebrate Austin's 6th birthday!  It was a pool party with lots of different pools, slip'n slides, water fountains, etc. for all the kiddos to play in and Skylar had a blast!  It took her a little while to warm up to the other kids, but then it was really cute to see her playing with her cousins!

Swimming and other fun times!

Skylar has learned how to take her diaper off nowadays as we are working on potty-training. Luckily she was dry at the end of her nap.

She had some chocolate on the way to the pool.  I don't usually let her go out looking like this!

She LOVED the pool the second time we went.  She didn't want anyone to hold her while she swam, she wanted to jump in the deep end and swim by herself.  Needless to say we didn't let that happen. 

Of course we had to take ducky for her to throw and then watch the little boy in the pool go after it. 

(On a side note, the first time we went to the pool it was quite frigid and Skylar let out an extremely loud squeal when she first got in)!

Recent Art Projects

The first picture is of a bag that I made. I made one for my friend Anne (see previous post) that I used to put her lingerie in, and then liked it so much that I made another one for me!  As you can see, Skylar also likes it and routinely picks it up and carries is as such. 

Next, is a laptop bag!  There is a coordinating inside and outside and let me tell you, this thing was a beast!  Not as bad as the dress, but there was alot too it.  There is a coordinating ipod case that I am going to make to go with this, but haven't gotten to it yet. 

And last, I made a chair for Skylar! I made the actual chair and stuffed it; then made the slipcover seen.  Skylar loves the chair and constantly throws herself on the chair to sit while she is watching daddy watch tv... 

I have many more ideas and patterns that I want to try, but will need to wait a few weeks before the next one to save my band account.  The chair was a bigger hit than expected.
